The Resurrection

Up all night I had not slept,

then I rushed out to the grave.

At the entrance, I knelt and wept.

A lonely sight, an empty cave.

He now was gone, no longer there.

Who could do this awful thing?

I cannot think, I only stare

The man we all were worshipping

had undergone a death so cruel.

What grief, I can no longer cope.

The man who lived the golden rule

has passed away with all our hope.

But as she turned she saw a man.

He must tend the garden here.

I will ask him if he can

how they stole my friend so dear.

He looked at me with glowing eyes.

I felt a presence o so sweet.

He looked so manly and so wise.

His gentle glance made my heartbeat.

“Who is the one that you now seek?”

“Why, the man who saved me from despair.”

“Then tell me why you are so bleak.”

“They killed him on that hill right there.

He said his kingdom was so near.”

“What kingdom do you think he said?”

“A loving one, but now I fear

the kingdom’s gone and all have fled.”

“You seek a kingdom from above,

purchased on that very cross,

a kingdom that is filled with love.

all is fulfilled, there is no loss.

“A kingdom that is for the meek

is not for those who crucify.

I am the kingdom which you seek,

a lasting one that will not die.”

“Raboni, is that really you?

I thought they took you far away.

I see you now, you look new.

Are you really here to stay?”

“You are right, all things are new.

Death and darkness are pulled down.

They are the very things I slew

that souls would be no longer bound.

Tell my disciples I am alive,

no longer hanging on a tree.

Your news will help their faith revive.

Their sins hang there and I am free

to grant salvation in my name

to all that look upon that cross.

They need no longer bear the blame

for with my death, there is no loss

except for the penalty of sin.

For ransomed souls have been set free.

A new life you can begin.

for all your sins were born by me.”

“Praise you, my Lord, I’m so relieved,

and I will tell them right away.

Though a woman’s often not believed.

so maybe I will have no sway.”

“You were chosen as the first

to hear the news of this great day.

The yolk of sin today I burst,

that there should be no delay.

Blessed are those who will believe,

and celebrate this great good news.

Today is not a time to grieve,

nor is it a time that one would lose

salvation won through faith in me.

Blessed are the ones who choose

my word and blood to be set free.”
